Sketchpad Explorer (Great Math App)
If you're looking for an interactive manipulative to spice up your regular routine (which can always help this time of year) then look no further. Sketchpad Explorer offers you and your scholars the opportunity to drag, manipulate, and even animate visually with mathematics. While this app offers a wide range of ability level tools and resources, it is divided up into a variety of sections which are easy to navigate through.
Sketchpad offers educators and students opportunities to interact and investigate with appropriate math tools. Here are a few samples of the resources that can be accessed.
Students can work with fractions, selecting numerators and denominators of their choice, then the app will convert the fraction into pictures, it even works with irregular fractions (not pictured). You can also work with place value, estimating the decimal and specific number aligned with where you place a marker on a number line.
You can find the Volume of a box and continue to adjust its dimensions or you can select multiples of specific numbers and see when and where they appear on a number line and when they overlap (common multiples).
Interested in Reflection or Lines of Symmetry? Use this app to determine where the line of symmetry is by drawing on the surface of the iPad. If you're teaching about triangles or angles use the Triangle feature to determine the measures of each angle. All of this is available and so much more and the best part is the app is FREE.
